Wiley Center pressing campaign for summer jobs

PAWTUCKET — The Campaign to Eliminate Childhood Poverty and the Wiley Center
are pursuing a follow-up campaign for more funds to finance a summer jobs program
for 14 and 15 year old children throughout the state. This year the Human Resource
Investment Council appropriated $250,000 for 250 summer jobs for 14 and 15-year-old
youths. Prior to last year when Congress slashed funds, the federal government
financed jobs for 2,000 teenagers in recent summers. Leaders of the campaign this
year have been meeting with representatives of the governor seeking additional
funds to finance more jobs for teens this summer.
