PAWTUCKET – Despite an extended search for suitable space with the help of the Economic Development Corporation, School House Candy, a division of Sherwood Brands, Inc., announced that it will move the manufacturing part of its production to Virginia where it will be consolidated with the rest of Sherwood’s operation. School House Candy has been made in Pawtucket for more than 90 years. However, the company announced, its gift basket assembly operation, which employs about 250 people, would be consolidated in Pawtucket, Central Falls and New Bedford. Its administrative offices, where more than 50 work in Pawtucket, will remain there, the company said. The moves will take place in April, the company said. Some of the approximately 100 workers affected by the move will be offered jobs at the corporate headquarters, the assembly operation or asked to relocate to Virginia, the company said.
