PROVIDENCE — The Department of Environmental Management said it plans to increase the daily possession limit for the commercial summer flounder fishery from 500 pounds to 750 pounds per vessel effective Thursday, March 15.
DEM said it made the adjustment to allow the state’s fishing industry to harvest the full January – April quota of 878,272 pounds allocated by the Rhode Island Marine Fisheries Council. The department’s Division of Fish and Wildlife has projected that under the 500-pound possession limit, the allocation would not be fully utilized by the end of April.
