Advanced Micro Devices plans lab for Boxborough


BOXBOROUGH – California-based Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. announced that it would locate a research center here to develop improved linkage between microprocessors and other computer chips. The Boston Globe reported that AMD would be working on HyperTransport, its technology for its processors with other key computer subsystems. The lab, which is expected to employ 35 persons, is AMD’s first venture into Massachusetts. The company’s Athlon microprocessor is the chief competitor with Intel Corp.’s Pentium chips.
