Dr. Louis A. Luzzi has been hired to
be director of pharmaceutical, medical and biotechnology initiatives at Cote
& D’Ambrosio. Luzzi is a former dean of the College of Pharmacy at the
University of Rhode Island. Luzzi will supervise agency programs in the three
areas and provide strategic direction in new business development efforts targeting
those sectors. A Narragansett resident, Luzzi is a graduate of URI, receiving
undergraduate, master’s and doctoral degrees from the school.
ARCHITECTURE
Shelley M. Harris, who was hired recently
at Taylor & Partners, Inc. of Boston and Newport, has 19 years experience
in architecture design and project management. She has received a mayor’s award
for her dedication and commitment for her work on the Boston Specialty &
Rehabilitation Hospital Renovation. She is a member of the American Institute
of Architects and the Boston Society of Architects; also, she is a graduate
of James Madison University and Arizona State University.

Mark Hughes, a scientist at Lincoln
Environmental since 1996, has qualified at the senior level as a Certified Hazardous
Materials Manager. This credential provides national recognition to professionals
in industry, government and academia engaged in the management of hazardous
materials. There are currently more than 6,000 CHMM-credentialed professionals
in the country. Hughes received a bachelor’s degree in biology from Providence
College.
FINANCE
Evan Kantor has been promoted to senior
vice president/consumer finance at Citizens Bank. He is the chief financial
officer of Citizens’ Consumer Lending Group. Kantor joined Citizens in 2000.
He is a 1978 graduate of Rutgers University and earned a master’s degree in
business administration from Rutgers Graduate School of Management in 1980.
Kantor is a resident of North Kingstown.
Timothy Pigott, senior vice president
of business development and commercial lending, has been selected by Bank
of Newport to run its latest business development initiative. The initiative
will focus on the introduction of commercial lending products and services to
customers outside of the area currently served by Bank of Newport. Pigott joined
the bank in 1988 and is a member of the bank’s senior management team and loan
committee. A resident of West Warwick, he graduated from Rhode Island College
and has a master’s in business administration from URI.
HEALTH CARE
Susan B. Labus was recently hired at
Landmark Medical Center to be its chief operating officer. Labus has more
than 20 years experience in health care administration, and was most recently
vice president of business development and cardiac services for Catholic Health
Systems in Buffalo. She is a graduate of Daeman College in Buffalo and holds
a master’s degree from the Rochester Institute of Technology. Labus lives in
Cumberland.
Sidney Braman was recently inaugurated
president of the American College of Chest Physicians at convocation
ceremonies in Philadelphia. Dr. Braman is chief of pulmonary and critical care
medicine at Rhode Island Hospital and Brown Medical School, and professor of
medicine at Brown University.
Jack R. Rocco was recently hired at
The Center for Orthopedics at the Atwood Medical Center in Johnston.
Rocco is a board certified orthopedic surgeon and is a member of the Rhode Island
Orthopedic Society and the Rhode Island Medical Society. He was commissioned
Captain in the Air Force in 1994 and entered active duty in 1997, serving as
chairman of Orthopedics Services in Misawa AB, Japan. He was promoted to major
in 1998 and is fluent in Japanese. Rocco, a Cranston resident, received his
medical degree from Temple University.
David A. Moss recently became a partner
at The Center for Orthopedics at the Atwood Medical Center in John-ston.
Moss is a board certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine
and reconstructive shoulder surgery. Moss has been practicing at the Center
since 1998. Moss received his medical degree from Hahnemann University Medical
School and completed his residency at Temple University Hospital. Moss is a
member of the Rhode Island Medical Society, the Rhode Island Orthopedic Society,
American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine and the American Academy of
Orthopedics. Moss lives in East Greenwich with his family.
Silvina Santos was recently promoted
to diversity coordinator at the Alzheimer’s Association Rhode Island Chapter.
Formerly the office manager, Santos is now responsible for outreach to diverse
communities, implementing education programs for those communities, making the
resource library more accessible to diverse populations, and outreach to healthcare
personnel. Santos is a member of the Rhode Island Minority Elder Task Force
and the Coalition for Diverse Elder Services. A native of Argentina, Santos
graduated from the Community College of Rhode Island and attends Johnson &
Wales University.
Audrey Garrett was recently hired at
Women & Infants’ Hospital as a physician in the hospital’s Program
in Women’s Oncology. Garrett is a graduate of Yale University and she earned
a master’s degree form the Columbia University School of Public Health and her
medical degree at the Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons. Garrett is
a member of the Society of Gynecologic Oncologists, the American Association
of Cancer Researchers, the American Medical Association and the American Medical
Women’s Association. She also is an assistant professor of obstetrics and gynecology
at Brown Medical School.
Kristin Keefe was recently hired at
Women & Infants’ Hospital as a physician in the hospital’s Program
in Women’s Oncology. Keefe earned her undergraduate degree from Bowdoin College
in Maine and her medical degree at Dartmouth Medical School in New Hampshire.
Previously, Keefe was an assistant professor at Dartmouth Medical School. She
was a recipient of the Gynecologic Cancer Foundation’s 1998 Clinical Poster
Award from the Society for Gynecologic Oncologists.
MANAGEMENT
Jenny Miller of Warwick has been promoted
to community relations director at Village Retirement Communities. Village
Retirement has three communities, The Village at Water-man Lake, The Village
at Elmhurst and The Village at Hillsgrove. Miller is responsible for maintaining
relationships with area professionals and community members, and familiarizes
the public with the Village’s lifestyle options for older adults. She had been
activity director at Hillsgrove.

Christopher Paul Moore has been hired
at Newberry Public Relations & Marketing, Inc. as an account coordinator.
Moore was employed by Rhode Island College and is responsible for client support
work, research activities, special event assistance, and coordination of agency
marketing and publicity. A Richmond resident, Moore is a graduate of Rhode Island
College.
Florence B. Shaw was recently hired
at Newberry Public Relations & Marketing, Inc. to be an administrative
assistant. Shaw was employed at Goodwill Industries of Rhode Island and is now
responsible for various administrative duties for the account service and production
departments. Shaw lives in Blackstone, Mass.

Cheryl Shatkin was recently installed
as president of the Kent Washington Board of Realtors. Shatkin was also
recently hired at Gammons Realty in North Kingstown after 13 years with Century
21 Access America. Shatkin joined the board in 1988 and has served as director
and executive committee member, as well as treasurer and president-elect.
