PROVIDENCE — The Big Picture Company, Rhode Island’s first non-profit organization to be granted a school charter, has entered into a $1 million education partnership with CVS/pharmacy.
CVS/pharmacy’s $1 million grant helped fund the operation of the CVS/Highlander Charter Elementary School. Opened in September, the Providence-based school is the state’s first charter elementary school.

The CVS/Highlander school currently enrolls 80 K-5 students, with plans to serve 195 students up to the eighth grade within five years. In accordance with its charter, 75 percent of the school’s student body are Providence residents, with the remaining 25 percent from other Rhode Island cities and towns.
According to Big Picture, CVS/pharmacy’s contribution will enable school administrators and faculty to spend less time fundraising and more time concentrating on students, as well as provide the school with resources to invest in technology and professional development.
