Karen Gail Kessler
Karen Gail Kessler has joined FourQuest Entertainment’s Theatre-By-The-Sea, to manage its marketing, sales and public relations. Kessler, a Bar-rington resident, has been an arts administrator for most of her post-collegiate career. After graduating from the University of Maryland, she managed the box office for the Harlequin Dinner Theatre in Maryland. She then joined the group sales department at the John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. After completing a specialized arts management master’s in business administration program at UCLA, she joined the marketing team at Trinity Repertory Company as the audience development manager. For the last six years, she has served as the publicity representative for the Pawtucket-based Community Players.

Caroline E. Moos
Caroline E. Moos has joined First Federal Savings Bank of America in the mortgage banking group. As mortgage account executive, she will assist customers and prospects in the greater Cranston area with their mortgage financing needs. A Cranston resident herself, she earned her bachelor’s degree at the University of Rhode Island. Prior to joining Firstfed, Moos worked in a similar capacity for Equity Concepts in Cranston.

Edward R. Stahowiak has joined Cornerstone Communications Group, Inc. of Providence as the agency’s creative director. He will oversee all aspects of graphic design and production for Cornerstone’s public relations and government affairs clients. Before joining the firm, he worked as a free-lance designer and continues to maintain a free-lance practice.

Tom Ahern, Accredited Business Contractor, has been awarded a Gold Quill Award from the International Association of Business Communicators. The IABC Gold Quill/Excellence Awards recognize 41 of the year’s best corporate communications programs worldwide. Other winners this year include Deloitte & Touche, Dow Chemical, AT&T, the New Zealand Federal Police, and the Slovenian National Airline. Ahern won his Gold Quill for communications research conducted for a North American professional association. He is the president of Ahern Communications.

Maurice Bermon, MD
Maurice Bermon, MD was recently named chief of psychiatry at Landmark Medical Center. A graduate of Tufts University Medical School, Dr. Bermon completed an internship in medicine at Boston City Hospital, a residency in psychiatry at Cambridge Hospital, and a fellowship in psychoanalytic psychotherapy at the Adams House Clinic, Faulkner Hospital in Jamaica Plain, Mass. He is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Prior to joining Landmark, Dr. Bermon practiced with Harvard Pilgrim Health Care of New England for 23 years.
David Caprio
David Caprio has been hired as the finance director for Children’s Friend & Service. Prior to joining the staff at CFS, he spent nearly nine years at Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island, where he was most recently assistant controller. Caprio received his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Bryant College.

M. Silvana Klara
M. Silvana Klara of Cum-berland has been named manager of underwriting development at Amica Mutual Insurance Company. A graduate of Bryant College, she began working for Amica as a rater, over 24 years ago. Most recently she was assistant manager in Amica’s National Customer Service Center. Klara earned her Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter designation from the Pennsylvania-based Insurance Institute of America. She is a member of the Rhode Island Chapter of the CPCU Society, teaches several CPCU classes, and is a member of the chapter’s education committee. In 1999 she was recipient of the CPCU Excellence Award.

John T. Duffy
John T. Duffy has been named to the national board of advisors for The Attorneys ABC Professional Liability Insurance Program, a national program of malpractice coverage underwritten by the Hanover Insurance Company of Worcester, Mass. A Providence lawyer, Duffy will work with executives on the program’s sales and marketing strategies, and create a newsletter addressing various topics in practice management. Duffy is the author of the book, A Lawyer’s Guide to Getting Good Press, and the principal author of the Lexis-Nexis national reference, Rainmaking: Client Development for the 90s. He is a cum laude graduate of Boston College, and he received his law degree from Syracuse University.
Madonna Cournoyer
Madonna Cournoyer has joined the law firm of Mirick O’Connell as an associate in the firm’s bankruptcy and commercial litigation practice group. Prior to joining Mirick, she was a commercial litigator for Todd & Weld in Boston. Before that she practiced tax law for various firms in Texas for eight years. The daughter of George and Sheila Cournoyer of North Smithfield, she earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Vermont and her law degree from the Boston University School of Law.

Danielle Kimberly Weiss
Danielle Kimberly Weiss, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Allen Weiss of East Greenwich, has been nominated for an Emmy Award as producer of the news special feature, “Director’s Cut: World AIDS Day 1999,” for MTV. Weiss has worked as a segment producer and program producer at MTV since she graduated from the Newhouse School of Broadcast Journalism at Syracuse University in 1996. She was a chancellor’s scholar and graduated with honors. Currently a Manhattan resident, Weiss is also a graduate of Moses Brown School and a former student at Rocky Hill School in East Greenwich.

Marie Morrell
Marie Morrell was recently elected to the board of directors at Warwick Shelter. A graduate of Queens College in New York, she is the lending and administrative manager at Warwick Municipal Credit Union, where she has been an employee since 1994. Morrell has helped the Warwick Shelter through the Credit Union’s holiday efforts to gather goods and gifts for needy Warwick residents. The Shelter helps those without safe residential housing, and makes such housing available on a short-term basis until longer-term remedies can be developed.

She will be responsible for recruiting and placing information systems professionals in the high technology sector throughout New England.
