SORPRESA!, a cable network geared toward Spanish-speaking children and teens, has extended its reach to Hispanic households nationwide by adding programming to 23 Cox Communications markets, including West Warwick.
The announcement was made Thursday by Dallas/Ft, Worth-based Firestone Communications Inc., a privately held media company that owns and manages SORPRESA!

Already offered on more than 285 systems throughout the country through affiliate agreements with Cablevision, Charter, Comcast, Cox, Time Warner Cable, Verizon and the National Cable TV Cooperative, SORPRESA! serves what’s considered the youngest fastest-growing demographic in the country and is the only all-Spanish children and teen network.
The network broadcasts 24 hours a day, targeted to Hispanic young people with animation, educational series, variety and special events programming from around the Hispanic world, a Business Wire press release said. The channel’s late evening schedule is geared toward “tweens” by featuring comedy, talk, games, music and movies. Relevant to the younger Hispanic generation, the channel’s programming reflects a dual-culture lifestyle, the release said.
Cox has 6.3 million basic cable subscribers and offers analog cable TV and advanced digital video service. With the addition of SORPRESA!, Cox should be able to attract an even larger number of Spanish-speaking households to its cable service and Hispanic video package. Cox is currently the nation’s third-largest cable television provider.
Under the agreement with Cox, SORPRESA! has been, or soon will be added to the following markets: Bakersfield, Calif.; Eureka, Calif.; Santa Barbara, Calif.; Tucson, Ariz.; North Virginia; Plainview, Texas; Manchester, Conn.; West Warwick, R.I.; Abilene/Sweetwater, Texas; Amarillo, Texas; Big Spring, Texas; Conroe, Texas; Georgetown/Round Rock, Texas; Lubbock, Texas; Midland, Texas; San Angelo, Texas; Berryville/Eureka Springs, Ariz.; Sulphur Springs, Texas; Clarksville, Ariz.; Huntsville, Texas; Fort Smith, Ark.; Gainesville, Texas; Sun Valley, Idaho.
