DEM fines Economic Development Corp.

PROVIDENCE — The state Department of Environmental Management has issued a notice
of violation to the Economic Development Corporation for its failure to immediately
report a mercury spill at the Quonset Davisville Steam Plant facility. The failure
to report the spill to DEM carries a $5,000 fine. State Senators James C. Sheehan
and J. Michael Lenihan and state Representatives Sue Henseler and Ken Carter said
“It could not have been an easy decision to find wrong-doing by an organization
with ties to your boss — Governor Almond. We believe DEM officials served the
public well by enforcing state regulations in a most professional and judicious
manner.”
