Dr. Sakeena Raza, 38

ASSISTANT PROFESSOR – BROWN MEDICINE

Where do you see yourself professionally in 20 years? I see myself as a seasoned clinician, a strong academician. I also envision myself being deeply involved in community service, either leading a charitable organization or being an integral part of an existing one. I want to be involved with students and trainees.

What advice would you give your 22-year-old self? Get into bench research. I never experienced basic science research, lab work. I feel that’s one thing one should start in med school. I had some opportunity but I didn’t really explore it.

What is your favorite Rhode Island escape or hobby? I really like the Cliff Walk in Newport. I just love the sea crashing into the rocks. It’s just beautiful, both in the summers and winters. It’s an all-season place.

Favorite Rhode Island restaurant? Tellulah’s in Providence. It’s really tiny but it has amazing food.
