Gasoline prices in Rhode Island continue to fall, both AAA of Southern New England and the State Energy Office said Monday, citing average prices of $2.289 per gallon and $2.309 per gallon, respectively, for self-serve regular unleaded.
By the AAA’s analysis, that’s a 10-cent drop from last week alone, and almost a dollar less than in the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in early September, when Rhode Island prices hit a record high of $3.239, on average, for self-serve regular gas.

A year ago at this time, the average price was $2.069, AAA said.
The range in prices in AAA’s survey for regular self-serve was 24 cents, from a low of $2.179 to a high of $2.419. Premium gasoline prices averaged $2.519, with a range of $2.399 to $2.699, and diesel averaged $2.779, with a range of $2.699 to $2.849.
The State Energy Office price survey, also conducted on Monday, found regular self-serve gasoline prices ranging from $2.249 to $2.399, and home heating oil retail prices ranging from $2.159 to $2.649 per gallon, with an average of $2.459.
