BOSTON — The Boston Globe’s efforts to pump up Sunday newspaper sales by publishing
an early edition Saturday morning have been less productive than hoped and the
so-called “bulldog” edition has been terminated after last Sunday’s production,
June 24. Launched in October 1999, the edition reached 20,000 subscribers, the
company announced. The New York Times-owned newspaper anticipated “small losses”
as a result of the move but predicted that it would more than make up for the
loss through cost savings and other circulation efforts.
