GTECH Holdings Corp. (NYSE:GTK – news), an operator of lottery systems, said on Thursday its fiscal second-quarter earnings more than doubled and reaffirmed its third quarter and full year guidance as the company cut costs and improved efficiency.
West Greenwich-based GTECH reported net income for the period ended Aug. 25 of $16.6 million, or 55 cents per diluted share, compared with $6.3 million, or 18 cents per diluted share, a year earlier.

The company said in a statement it expects to earn in the range of 71 to 73 cents per share for its fiscal third quarter and sees full year earnings between $2.70 and $2.75 per share — in line with previous estimates.
Shares of GTECH closed at $30.47 Wednesday on the New York Stock Exchange.
