Neither ttools nor its flagship product, the throttle dual-function stylus/pen, are in any way affiliated with the Palm Computing product. Throttle, designed to power the user smoothly between notepad and personal digital assistant, was introduced to the market in June 1988.

CyREL arrives in Fall River
FALL RIVER, MA – CyREL LLC, a new high technology firm that designs and manufactures cutting-edge electronic packaging products, has located in the Fall River Industrial Park. The startup company has seven employees and expects to create 60 new jobs in the next 60 months. CyREL has purchased the former Mass Transfer Systems building and is planning to modify the space to accommodate its advanced manufacturing processes. CyREL manufactures high technology products used in the aerospace, communications and computer industries. Jay S. Greenspan, the company’s chief executive officer describes CyREL this way; “We try to develop thermal solutions to current problems in the electronics industry. Sprint reports record first quarter
KANSAS CITY, MO – Sprint reports record first quarter results in both its FON and PCS Groups. The FON Group’s diluted earnings per share of 93 cents represented an increase of 16 percent from the first quarter of 1998. The PCS Group achieved the highest number of first quarter customer acquisitions ever recorded by a U.S. wireless carrier – second only to Sprint PCS’ fourth quarter 1998 sales. Consolidated Sprint revenues for the quarter were $4.72 billion, a 16 percent increase from $4.08 billion in the same period last year.
Submarine fiber optic spending soaring
CAMBRIDGE, MA – From 1999 to 2004, the worldwide fiber optic submarine systems market will exhibit the healthiest levels of production in its entire history, according to the latest report from Pioneer, 1999 Worldwide Submarine Fiber Optic Systems. The total investment in submarine cables with a ready-for-service date from 1999 to 2004 will be $31.8 billion. This represents a 169 percent increase over the investment that occurred during the previous six-year period (1993-1998), which was only $11.8 billion.
Server clustering subject of study
STAMFORD, CT – GartnerConsulting, a unit of the Gartner Group, Inc., announced plans last week to study the use server clustering in the business community. Server clustering is the practice of using two or more computers tightly coupled to form a larger computing system, which is attached to a storage resource. The purpose is to reduce downtime and increase availability of applications and service. Clustering has become a hot topic among companies in the server arena, according to researchers at GartnerConsulting. Although the technology has been in existence for many years, Internet-based computing has once again sparked the need for clustering solutions, company officials report. Among the topics Gartner researchers plan to study include: the service and support factors for clustering products and the key applications that drive require clustering solutions.
Sandstorm releases upgraded PhoneSweep
CAMBRIDGE, MA – Sandstorm Enterprises Inc., an information security tools company, has released an enhanced version of its PhoneSweep telephone scanner. Version 1.03 enhancements include support for up to eight simultaneous modems, an improved user interface, and more than a doubling of the profile size – the number of distinct phone numbers scanned as part of a single sweep – in the basic version of the software. PhoneSweep is intended for use by security professionals to audit corporate telephone networks for vulnerabilities, as the commercial counterpart to “war dialers” employed by computer hackers.
CBSI secures government contract
HARTFORD, CT – The Connecticut General Assembly has designated Complete Business Solutions, Inc. (CBSI) to install and implement PeopleSoft solutions to process and manage the Assembly’s financial information. CBSI, based in Farmington Hills, Michigan, reports that the contract is valued at more than $1 million and is expected to last over a year. The PeopleSoft program is designed to enhance management reporting capabilities in such areas as general ledger, accounts payable, purchasing and human resource applications.
