GTECH signs on with Western Australia Lottery
GTECH has signed a new contract to provide online lottery equipment, software and services to the Western Australia Lotteries Commission. Under terms of the agreement, GTECH will replace the Lottery’s existing central system hardware and software with new Duplex Compaq hardware with remote back-up and GTECH’s proprietary ProSys software. In addition, GTECH will provide the necessary network communications equipment, as well as training and installation. The product sale includes a five-year software license and software support agreement, which may be extended for an additional three years.
GTECH has had a contract with the Western Australia Lotteries Commission for the past 14 years.

Nextel lands state contract
The state Department of Administration has awarded a two-year contract for wireless communications to Nextel Communications. The agreement is effective from March 1, 2000 through Jan. 31, 2002. It allows Rhode Island state agencies to purchase wireless service through Nextel.
In addition, Nextel has agreed to extend the terms of the agreement to all Rhode Island cities and towns. That voluntary extension gives the local cities and towns the same purchasing power and benefits available to the state under the agreement.

Visitors to the new Streamedinfo.com can get the latest in free corporate training courses. Founded in 1996 as SofTech by brothers Thomas and Stephen Aldous, the program has a new name – and plans to link with leading Internet Service Providers, such as Media One and Cox Cable.
The idea, according to the founders, is to promote the concept of “Teachers Without Borders,” which allows anyone, anywhere to go back to school.
The program is an offshoot of the Aldous’ East Providence-based Integrated Technologies.
J&W hosts technology conference
The first annual Edu-TECH 2000 Educators Technology Conference will be held April 7,2000 at Johnson & Wales University.
The purpose of the conference is threefold: to discuses the state of technology in today’s K-12 environments; to discuss the future technology options for the K-12 group; and to discuss the programs and resources currently available in virtually every school district, that are ready-to-access as training and teaching tools.
The Edu-TECH 2000 conference is an effort sponsored jointly by TECH CORPS RI and the Information Technology Academy. TECH CORPS is a non-profit organization of technology volunteers dedicated to improving K-12 education at the grassroots level. TECH CORPS RI has worked in 71 schools in 26 district providing information technology in a variety of ways including professional development for teachers, Internet, writing and special events. ITA is a coalition of business education, and government leaders dedicated to developing and implementing meaningful technology instruction and preparing the future workforce for and economy increasingly shaped by information technologies.
The cost of the conference is $25 and it will be held from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. including lunch. Keynote speaker will be Stephen Kohn, director of Strategic Alliances and Education Initiatives at Bell-Atlantic-New York. Education technology professionals throughout Rhode Island are invited to attend.
