Job Lot’s Quonset expansion spurs growth into Maine

What began as a single-store operation in North Kingstown in 1977 has evolved into an 80-store operation with projected sales of $360 million in 2006. To service this growth, the Ocean State Job Lot Company recently opened the first phase of its new corporate headquarters and distribution facility at the Quonset Business Park in North Kingstown.

The company now employs 3,400 and expects this number to increase.

The Quonset location will allow the company to expand its presence in northern New England and into New York. Job Lot opened its first New Hampshire store in 2003 and now has four stores in the Granite State.

Its further expansion into northern New England is slated for late April, with a store opening in Belfast, Maine. The location will employ between 50 and 60 full- and part-time help. At 41,000 square feet, the store will be among the largest of Job Lot’s 80 locations.
