Larami files patent infringement suit against Ohio Art

Larami Limited, a subsidiary of Pawtucket-based Hasbro, Inc., has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against The Ohio Art Company in U.S. District Court in New Jersey on the grounds that Ohio Art infringed upon Larami patents for its line of SUPER SOAKER toy water blasters.

According to Hasbro, Larami is seeking damages and injunctive relief based on Ohio Art’s selling of its “A.R.M. 4000 XL,” a water blaster that utilizes Larami’s customized pressurized water system and release valve, as described in the lawsuit.

The suit also says that based on an analysis of the Ohio Art product, Larami said that the “A.R.M. 4000 XL” infringes upon two of its patents.

“This infringement suit demonstrates Hasbro’s continued commitment to vigorously protecting our intellectual properties and patents,” said Barry Nagler, General Counsel for Hasbro, in a company statement.

Larami’s SUPER SOAKER water blasters were introduced in the early 1990s, and are distinctive for their use of pressurized water and air to shoot volumes of water considerable distances, as well as their futuristic look, Hasbro said.
