PROVIDENCE – Rhode Island Medical Imaging has added new “open air” magnetic resonance imaging systems to its diagnostic imaging services. The Open Air MRI system features a design that provides access from all sides for a patient and helps to minimize anxiety and claustrophobia.
MRI systems are a non-invasive method of examining the inside of the body, head, spine, bone or joints without the use of surgery or X-ray. Patients can choose to have their scan either within a hospital environment or at two Open MRI outpatient centers, one located at the Greenwich Medical Center in East Greenwich, or another at the Moshassuck Medical Center in Providence. The Providence location also recently announced the availability of a laser procedure to treat varicose veins. Endovenous laser ablation is an alternative to the more painful process of surgical ligation and stripping that requires hospitalization and a longer recovery time.

WESTERLY – Heartlab Inc., a developer of cardiac image and information management software, announced that it will purchase CardioNow Corp., a provider of telecardiology and image archiving solutions to hospitals, cardiovascular core labs and clinical trial sponsors.
The acquisition will broaden Heartlab’s installation base to more than 200 heart centers and expand its customer base significantly.
Executives from the cardiovascular device, medical imaging and information technology fields founded CardioNow, based in Encinitas, Calif., in 1999. The company leveraged the Internet to provide clinicians with the ability to access, share and collaborate over patients’ charts from anywhere in the world.
Founded in 1994, Heartlab is a designer and supplier of digital image and information networks for cardiology.
