This is the first weekend of the Splash Duck Tours of Providence, run by Robert and Julie Rolando, which offers an amphibious tour of the city. The narrated tours will include one-hour excursions on land and sea.
The Splash Duck Tours vehicle – resembling those used in Boston – has a capacity of 49 passengers, and is outfitted with plush vinyl seating, roll-down side curtains, overhead viewing panels, a restroom and interior heating.
A similar tour operated briefly in providence four years ago. The tours will feature notable sites in the city, including downtown and historic Benefit Street. When it takes to the water, the vehicle will travel by the Fox Point Hurricane Barrier, and along India Point before returning to Downcity.

The tours, running from May through October, will start at 10 Dorrance St., departing twice every weekday, and four times on Saturdays and Sundays. Ticket prices are $14.95 for adults and $10 for children. Children under the age of four can ride free.
Robert Rolando, a 26-year veteran of the boating business, received a $50,000 loan from the Providence Economic Development Corporation to help raise the business’s $200,000 startup costs.
