As of Dec. 31, 2002, there were five unfilled vacancies, bringing the net headcount at the end of the calendar year to 55 people. With the reorganization and layoffs, the net headcount at the end of the current fiscal year is anticipated to be 42 people. The net salary savings for fiscal year 2004 are projected to be approximately $900,000.
Quonset Davisville employees were told of the layoffs last Wednesday.
The decision to lay off Quonset Davisville workers came after a management assessment of staff and operations at the park.
Last month, a similar management assessment at the RIEDC’s Providence offices resulted in eleven people being laid off resulting in savings of approximately $600,000. Michael E. McMahon, RIEDC executive director, noted that the objective of these efforts is twofold: to turn RIEDC into a more focused, effective organization and to free up capital to invest in economic development.
“Quonset Davisville is being reorganized into a property management company” he said.
