R.I. Senate elects Irons leader

PROVIDENCE– The Rhode Island Senate’s Democratic caucus has unanimously elected
Sen. William V. Irons leader for the balance of this term and the 2001-2002
legislative session. Irons’ district is split between East Providence and Pawtucket.
Irons was elected to the Senate in 1983. He had served as chairman of the Corporations
Committee since 1992. He succeeds Sen. Paul S. Kelly. Succeeding Irons as caucus
chairman is Sen. Stephen D. Alves of West Warwick.
