The TJX Companies, Inc., the leading off-price retailer of apparel and home fashions in the U.S. and worldwide, reported that August 2004 sales were up 13 percent from the same period in 2003. Sales for the year-to-date were up 14 percent, the company said.
Sales for the four weeks were $1.1 billion, up from the $995 million reached during the same four-week period in 2003. For the year-to-date, sales reached $7.9 billion, up from last year’s $6.9 billion, TJX said.

Consolidated comparable store sales for August increased 4 percent over last year. For the 30-week, year-to-date period, consolidated comparable store sales increased 5 percent over last year, the company said.
The TJX Companies, Inc. operates 759 T.J. Maxx, 686 Marshalls, 194 HomeGoods, and 112 A.J. Wright stores, as well as 31 Bob’s Stores, in the United States.
