WESTERLY – Maria N. Janes has been named controller and senior vice president at The Washington Trust Co., the bank has said.
Janes, who was also appointed a member of the senior management team, is responsible for establishing accounting policies, systems and internal controls for the publicly traded bank, Rhode Island’s largest independent financial institution.
Washington Trust said Janes is also responsible for all internal and external regulatory and tax reporting, as well as managing legal and insurance matters for the company.
Janes joined the bank in 1997 as financial accounting officer, after working for five years with the public accounting firm of Lefkowitz, Garfinkel, Champi & DeRienzo.
She was named assistant controller in December 1997, assistant vice president in 1998, and vice president and controller in 1999. She graduated from the University of Rhode Island in 1992 with a bachelor’s degree in accounting, and has been a certified public accountant since 1994.
