PROVIDENCE – Caroline Stevens has joined the American Institute of Architects Rhode Island chapter as executive director.
She replaces Jen Zolkos, who was executive director for the past decade, according to a news release.

Stevens will oversee the chapter’s programs and operations, including increasing the public understanding of the architecture profession.
Stevens is best known in Providence for directing Doors Open Rhode Island, an initiative she founded that organizes local place-based public programs. Through her leadership, the event made its mark with a one-day festival that attracted more than 4,000 people to behind-the-scenes access to 24 buildings.
Before moving to Rhode Island, Stevens led architectural tours in Chicago and wrote a building blog. She led the Chicago Architecture Foundation’s Open House Chicago, an architecture and urban exploration festival.
She has a master’s degree in public humanities from Brown University.
