Lottery printer making facility fires 80

WALLINGFORD, Conn. (Bloomberg) — TransAct Technologies Inc. will fire 80 workers, or 41 percent of its 195 employees, when it closes its Wallingford, Connecticut, printer-making facility in December. TransAct will shift engineering and production of its lottery- ticket printers to an Ithaca, New York, facility, Chief Financial Officer Richard L. Cote said. The company, which will relocate its Wallingford headquarters next year, expects to save about $4 million from the moves and job cuts. The company can’t be assured GTECH Holdings Corp., the world’s largest seller of lottery operations, will order printers from TransAct next year, Cote said. The company will produce the printers in Ithaca if GTECH orders next year. TransAct makes transaction printers that print receipts used in retail stores and automated teller machines.
