Bernadine Pinto, Ph.D, of the Centers for Behavioral and Preventive Medicine at The Miriam Hospital and Brown Medical School, has received the Bruce M. Selya Award for Excellence in Research for her work in studying lifestyle changes as an intervention in managing chronic disease and cancer rehabilitation. She received $1,000 and an engraved plaque. She will serve for three years as a member of the Selya research award committee. Pinto is an assistant professor in the department of psychiatry and human behavior at Brown Medical School. She received her bachelor of arts in psychology, sociology and economics in 1980 and a master of arts in psychology in 1982 from Bangalore University in India. She earned a master of arts in clinical psychology in 1987 and her Ph.D in clinical psychology in 1992 from Western Michigan University.
