FM Global Grows Local Workforce by Nearly Three Percent in 2010
More Local Hiring Planned in New Year
JOHNSTON, R.I.—Despite the state’s stalled job growth, FM Global, Rhode Island’s largest private company and one of the world’s largest commercial property insurers, today announced it grew its local workforce by nearly three percent during 2010 by continuing to hire dozens of full-time professionals for positions at its R.I. and Mass. offices. The $4.6 billion company anticipates continued hiring this year for about 20 full-time positions in Southern New England in the fields of information technology, underwriting, engineering and research.

From January through December 2010, FM Global filled 88 full-time local positions and 27 new full-time positions were created. And while the company continues to hire, it is also very successful in retaining employees year-after-year. The average employee tenure at FM Global is 12 years (see photo caption below) and the company has an annual employee turn-over rate of 5 percent—nearly five times less than the industry average of 26.8 percent, as reported by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).

Paul Ciancarelli, senior surveyor, is the longest-serving active full-time employee at FM Global with 52 years of service. “At first it was just a job with excellent benefits,” Paul said. “But, it’s the people who have made this a great place to work. I’ve made a lot of friendships over the years, including my best friend, my wife, Joan.” Joan Ciancarelli, senior administrative assistant, has 42 years of service with the company. The couple met at FM Global and were married in 1974.
