Judith Ventura knows the value of hard work. After completing her undergraduate degree in management at Bryant University, Ventura (as she is known professionally, her married name is Ventura Enright) went to work and attended Bryant part time to add a concentration in accounting. Not that she was just marking time in her job for Structure (a division of The Limited) in Cranston – she climbed to store manager in three years and was eventually named one of the company’s 50 best store managers in the country.
But she had not added the accounting training on a lark. In fact, when she sat in one day for the four sections of the Certified Public Accounting exam (itself a feat worth noting), Ventura scored the highest of all the people taking the test at the same time. Inspired by her father’s “hard work, dedication and staying the course,” according to her 40 Under Forty application, her persistence has continued to pay off.
Following stints as an in-house accountant, she joined LGC&D a decade ago, and has been on an upward trajectory ever since.
In addition to being a senior audit manager for the firm and handling clients, Ventura has taken on two important additional duties. She is the leader of the employee benefit plan practice unit, a position that demands she develop policies and training for the benefit plan audits that the firm does. As a result, she said, LGC&D has “a team of individuals [who] function as industry specialists.” In addition, she has been serving on a committee to develop a long-term training program for the firm’s employees.•
