MIDDLETOWN – KVH Industries Inc. this month said it has received a total of $2 million in new orders for its tactical navigation systems and displays from multiple American and foreign military contractors.
The orders – for KVH’s TACNAV tactical navigation systems and Universal Multilingual Displays – are scheduled to begin shipping in the quarter that started this month. Some of them will not be completed until next year.

“Due to contractual restrictions, additional details regarding the customers and platforms cannot be disclosed at this time,” KVH said.
American and allied forces are currently using KVH’s TACNAV systems in both Iraq and Afghanistan. In addition to the U.S. military, other countries that have purchased the systems include Canada, Sweden, Great Britain, Germany, Spain, Australia, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia, Taiwan, Malaysia, Switzerland, Botswana, Singapore and Italy.
Separately, KVH announced last week that it expects by the end of this year to expand its mini-VSAT Broadband service, which provides satellite telephone and Internet access to vessels, to cover most of the African continent using the Telesat T-11N satellite.
“The addition of African coverage is a major milestone for the mini-VSAT Broadband network as we now have live coverage or are under contract to provide coverage for virtually every major maritime region on the globe,” Brent C. Bruun, KVH’s vice president of sales and business development, said in a statement.
KVH noted that the African coverage expansion will coincide with preparations for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa and also will give the company the chance to get a toehold with firms working in the lucrative oil and gas fields of Nigeria and West Africa.
The company has already rolled out the mini-VSAT network to vessels in North America, the Caribbean, the North Atlantic, Europe, the Northern Pacific, and the Persian Gulf.
