Rhode Islanders get help in buying <br>prescription drugs from Canada

Up to 50 percent savings on medicine possible

Secretary of State Matt Brown unveiled a new Web site Monday to help Rhode Islanders buy prescription drugs at significantly lower prices from Canadian pharmacies. The site, RI Rx, is located at www.state.ri.us/rirx, and could save consumers 30 percent to 50 percent on prescription drugs, according to a press release.

Three states – Minnesota, Wisconsin and New Hampshire – have Web sites that direct people to Canadian pharmacies that have been inspected by state authorities. Brown’s site links to the Wisconsin Web site.

In January, Brown also called on the state to move to purchase prescription drugs from Canada for state employees and retirees, which could save the state millions of dollars.
