PROVIDENCE – The number of rounds played at Rhode Island golf facilities increased 3.7 percent in June, when compared to a year earlier, despite a decrease in the number of days the facilities were open.
There were 9,322 rounds of golf played in June, according to the PGA PerformanceTrak survey, as compared to the 8,992 rounds played in June 2010.

Rhode Island was one of two states – Alabama was the other – that saw that inverse relationship.
Eighteen states saw the number of rounds increase as the number of days the facilities were open also increased.
On a national level in June, the number rounds advanced 2.3 percent, when compared to a year earlier, as the number of days open added 0.5 percent.
For the year to date, nationally, rounds were down 2.9 percent and days open were down 2.7 percent.
PerformanceTrak noted that New England, the Upper Midwest and Plains regions have yet to recover from weather related events for the year to date, while the Atlantic Coast and the lower portion of the country remain consistent with rounds and golf fee revenue.
The results were based on responses from 2,518 facilities.
