In early December, Interplex Metals, a Warwick-based manufacturer, was recommended
for ISO/TS16949 certification by its registrar, National Quality Assurance of
Acton, Mass.
ISO/TS 16949 is a globally recognized quality standard developed and implemented
by the automotive manufacturing industry, including companies such as Ford Motor
Company, General Motors and DaimlerChrysler AG. With just more than 300 companies
certified to the standard in the United States, Interplex is believed to be
the first company with headquarters in Rhode Island to achieve the esteemed
certification.

Interplex was founded in 1982 in Providence and specializes in reel-to-reel
precious metal electroplating and specialty engineered materials serving the
automotive, telecommunication and consumer electronics industries.
Smaller businesses expected to spend more on IT
ANDOVER, Mass. – NaviSite Inc., a provider of application
management, content distribution, messaging and infrastructure management services,
recently co-sponsored a survey on the information technology spending plans
for small- and mid-size U.S. businesses. The survey was conducted in conjunction
with Massachusetts-based market intelligence firm Schaaf Inc.
Schaaf interviewed IT executives across a range of business verticals to gauge
their demand and spending plans for technology products and services in 2004,
ranging from managed messaging, disaster recovery and backup, to Virtual Private
Networks. The survey showed that 23 percent of respondents plan an average of
a 60 percent increase in spending on Web hosting in support of their business’
online presence. Increased spending on storage and disaster recovery is also
expected.
