Bill calls for binding arbitration in disputes

PROVIDENCE – Gov. Donald L. Carcieri is urging lawmakers to oppose a bill that calls for teacher contract disputes in Rhode Island to be resolved by binding arbitration.
“We foresee that this legislation … will break the practical limits of municipal spending,” the Republican governor said in a letter to House Labor Committee Chairman Arthur J. Corvese, D-North Providence.
Corvese’s panel heard testimony on the bill last week.
