What is clear, is that FleetBoston Financial deserves the recognition it has received for being named among the “100 Best Companies for Working Mothers” by Working Mother Magazine.

The “100 Best Companies for Working Mothers” is a compilation of corporations that “best recognize the values and needs of working families. In naming Fleet to its list for the third time, Working Mother cited flexible work arrangements, WorkLife programs, and advancement of women.

This year, Working Mother specifically focused on how well companies provide benefits to workers at lower incomes and job levels. The criteria included the percentage of women in the workplace, child-care support, scheduling flexibility, leave for new parents and advancement of women.

Fleet’s Work/Life program was singled out. Fleet’s Anne Szostak, executive vice president and director of human resources and diversity (and newly appointed chief executive officer and chairwomen), directed the company as it adopted a formal WorkLife program, said to be among the first to be established in America.

Fleet and Szostak should be proud of their efforts.
