Former treasurer candidate sentenced

PROVIDENCE — Former Democratic state treasurer candidate Marlene McKenna was
sentenced to six months home confinement and three years probation for taking
money from investment clients’ accounts. She was also ordered to make $113,722
restitution to individual investors and $66,000 to Linsco/Private Ledger, a former
employer that has reimbursed some of the investors in that amount. In April, McKenna
pleaded guilty to one count of mail fraud. She was charged with some 39 unauthorized
withdrawals from accounts belonging to nine clients, converting the money for
her own use. During what was termed the “fraud scheme” McKenna was employed by
or affiliated with various investment firms and also operated her own office under
the name of Office Services, located at 23 Acorn St., Providence, according to
the U.S.Attorneys office.
