GTECH introduces multi-vendor, progressive jackpot system

WEST GREENWICH – GTECH, in partnership with the Rhode Island Lottery, activated the lottery industry’s first technically integrated, multi-vendor, wide area, progressive jackpot system on 72 video lottery terminals (VLT) from four vendors. Linked together under a progressive jackpot, the system went live on Feb. 11, in two Rhode Island locations.

A progressive jackpot allows multiple players on multiple VLTs to play for the same jackpot. The increasing jackpot is based on a percentage of the dollars played on the VLTs and continues to grow until a player receives a winning jackpot combination on any of the terminals, at which point the jackpot resets. As the Rhode Island Lottery’s video central system vendor, GTECH developed a central system solution that would integrate multiple vendor, point-of-sale (POS) devices in separate locations.
