Landmark Medical Center marked the beginning of construction of its new cardiac unit with a “wall-breaking” ceremony on the ground floor of the Woonsocket unit. U.S. Congressman Patrick J. Kennedy, Landmark president and CEO Gary J. Gaube, and board of trustees chairman Bentley Tobin each donned a hard hat to take a ceremonial swing with a gold-plated sledgehammer at a section of wall that will be knocked down to make way for the new unit. The cardiac unit is the result of collaboration between Landmark and Boston’s Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center to establish a regional cardiac care center for the treatment of heart disease. It is expected to be completed this summer.
