Rochelle Strenger, MD, an oncologist at the Miriam Hospital in Providence, has been named the Rhode Island Medical Women’s Association Physician of the Year for 2001. She founded REMEDY, a medical supply recycling program at Brown Medical School. The program collects recyclable medical supplies from Brown University affiliated hospitals and channels them to charitable organizations in other countries. Strenger earned her bachelor’s degree in biology from Barnard College and her master’s degree in nutritional biochemistry from the Institute of Human Nutrition, Columbia University. She earned her medical degree from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and completed a residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in hematology/medical oncology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. She is a clinical assistant professor of medicine at Brown Medical School and resides in Sharon, Mass. with her husband and two sons.
