Learn your way around DJ equipment and work in a supportive setting with professional DJs La Rochelle and sistersquid. Create your own thirty-minute DJ set and perform for your friends! By the end of the workshop you’ll be comfortable mixing using vinyl or digital music, have a recorded 30-minute set and access to the DJ workshop’s Open Studio hours.
Ladies DJ 101 will be taught by DJs sistersquid (Samantha Calamari) and La Rochelle (Rachel Rosenkrantz), Rhode Island-based professionals with years of experience behind the decks at clubs as well as community events.

About the Instructors:
Samantha Calamari aka sistersquid:
Since 1999, sistersquid has been spinning Funk, Soul, Disco into the hearts and dance floors of countless clubs, bars, backyards, weddings, and beach parties from San Francisco to Brooklyn and beyond. She is a former member of the San Francisco based all- female artist collective, Herstory and has written articles addressing women’s identity in the DJ landscape and DJing 101 guides, in hopes of empowering women to get behind the decks. While she continues to explore many digital formats and systems, her true pleasure is playing sets of 45s of which her collection holds those near and dear to her heart including Soul Children’s Don’t Mistake My Kindness for Weakness and Nick Gilder’s Hot Child in the City.
Rachel Rosenkrantz aka La Rochelle:
LaRochelle is a French DJ based in Providence, RI. After spinning for several years at private parties and organizing many of them with her husband DJ Nick de Paris; it’s about 3 years ago that LaRochelle started to perform in bars and clubs when she formed and joined the all female DJs ‘Union Street Collective’ with other founders/members DJ Mercedes, DJ Kasumi and DJ Amac. LaRochelle’s music influences are very diverse and is reflected in the eclectic music she plays.
LaRochelle is a resident DJ at The Salon (Honey I’m Home nights with Nick de Paris), a Union Street Collective DJ, a contributor to Soundscape events and a supporter of GirlsRock RI.
