CAMBRIDGE — Lotus Development Corp., which eliminated 183 jobs in March, announced
that it would lay off another 200 workers. A company spokeswoman attributed the
layoffs to the economic downturn as well as to the company’s shifting its focus
to knowledge management and training software. The company also announced that
it was reducing its real estate costs by shifting its corporate headquarters from
its Cambridge Parkway location to Rogers Street while reducing the size of space
it leases at the Cambridge Parkway site from 260,000 square feet to 30,000 square
feet. Lotus also announced that it would sell its Charles Park building and then
lease space in the building from the new owners, the Boston Globe reported, as
well as leasing more space in its Westford Office Park location, where rates are
lower than those in Cambridge.
