Maria N. Janes has been promoted to senior vice president and controller at Washington Trust. Janes is responsible for establishing effective accounting policies, accounting systems and internal controls, as well as ensuring regulatory compliance over all financial areas of the bank. She is also responsible for all internal and external regulatory and tax reporting, as well as managing legal and insurance matters for the company. She has a B.A. in accounting from the University of Rhode Island and has been a certified public accountant since 1994. •
