Police station-to-hotel plan advances

BOSTON– The Boston Public Facilities Commission has given preliminary approval to a plan to convert the old Berkeley Street police station into a 200-room hotel. The hotel would be built by the Saunders Hotel Group, owners of the Lenox and Copley Square hotels in Boston. The $40 million project would include the addition of three floors to the building built in 1924, bringing the total to 10 stories. The police department moved its headquarters to Roxbury in 1998.
