Raytheon Company, which is among Rhode Island’s largest employers (about 1,500)
at its plant in Portsmouth, provides products and services in the areas of defense
and commercial electronics and special mission aircraft. For the nine months
ended Oct. 1, net sales decreased 4 percent to $12.52 billion. Net income decreased
28 percent to $308 million. The company said decreased revenues were the result
of lower volume in missiles and missile defense systems. The company last week
announced it had been awarded an $11.7 million U.S. Navy contract for two AN/SQS-20-high-speed
acoustic mine hunting systems, an advanced helicopter and surface towed mine
hunting sonar system. The potential value of the contract, when all options
are exercised is $48.2 million.
