It appears that 2002 is shaping up to be a critical year for the Rhode Island Technology Council.
We are pleased to hear that the trade organization plans to focus its attention on workforce development and membership. In 2001, RITech’s membership grew by 75 percent – from 138 to 242 members. That’s promising. The idea has been to recruit membership not only from IT-producing companies, but also IT-enabled ones. That widens the playing field substantially and gives the organization an opportunity to develop critical mass.
Following that formula in 2002 should help the organization grow and build a foundation, upon which important technological initiatives may be advanced.
It is obvious that while vibrant, Rhode Island’s technology community is small. Going it alone presents a competitive disadvantage. Bringing a wide array of industries into the mix is a wise approach, and one that RITech is indeed correct in continuing.
