Wheeler project rolling along

An expansion of the Wheeler School in Providence has edged closer the finish line with the completion of the structural frame of the Hamilton School addition.
On Sept. 25, Shawmut Design and Construction held a “topping off” ceremony to mark the occasion. The project involves the renovation of an occupied 7,600-square-foot, two-story wood-framed schoolhouse and the creation of a 10,800-square-foot addition. The project, which is being completed on a 15-month, three-phase schedule, has roughly reached the halfway point of construction.
Providence-based Ed Wojcik Architect Ltd. designed the plans and ODEH, also from Providence, is the structural engineer. Shawmut Design and Construction is a 100 percent employee-owned company headquartered in Boston with offices in New York, Providence, Las Vegas, Atlantic City and New Haven.
