The state Human Resource Investment Council (HRIC) is seeking input from the accounting community through a survey designed to gather information about their understanding and use of state job training tax credits.
The HRIC administers job training tax credits which are designed to encourage investment in workforce training programs and expedite the hiring of individuals who have either been unemployed or on public assistance.
The tax credits are available in the following categories: RI Jobs Training, Adult Education, Employer’s Apprenticeship and New Employment.

Dr. Lee H. Arnold, executive director of the HRIC, says that feedback from the accounting community is pivotal as the state looks for ways to boost participation in tax credit programs.
The HRIC has long been a friend to the business community – with its various programs benefiting both individuals and companies.
We encourage accountants throughout the state will take the time to respond to the HRIC query.
The result may well be better participation in programs that encourage employers to retrain their workers. The easier – and more affordable — it is for companies to retrain their own workers, the less likely it becomes for them to look for alternative ways to produce their products. Companies today must find new and more efficient ways to compete. Making it easier for them to retrain existing employees benefits everyone involved.
Any accountant or businessperson interested in participating or offering feedback can access the survey at www.rihric.com.
