The Honorable Mary M. Lisi, District Judge, U.S. District Court for Rhode Island and 1977 graduate of Temple Law in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, recently addressed 300 JD and 119 LLM graduates at the law school’s 101st commencement ceremony.
Judge Lisi began her career in the public service sector with the Office of the Public Defender in Providence in 1977. She first served as assistant public defender, responsible for the legal representation of indigent juvenile offenders, and later as supervising attorney for the juvenile division. She was director of the office of the Rhode Island Family Court and deputy and chief disciplinary counsel for the Rhode Island Supreme Court. Former President Clinton appointed her to the U.S. District Court of Rhode Island in 1994.
