Internet access providers raising rates

BOSTON — AT&T Broadband and Verizon Communications, the two principal high-speed
Internet access providers in the Greater Boston area, have announced they are
raising rates 15 to 25 percent. AT&T Broadband, which has about 150,000 cable
modem subscribers in Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire announced that it
was raising its rates about 15 percent starting next month, the Boston Globe reported.
Meanwhile Verizon said it would raise its regular monthly rates 25 percent for
digital subscriber service. A spokesperson for AT&T said the increase was
marketplace generated, noting that the rates had not been increased for five years.
Verizon announced its rate increase shortly after AT&T’s announcement.
