Jerry Cohen has passed the Rhode Island Bar at age 65, which may make him the
oldest candidate in Rhode Island’s history to pass the exam, according to a press
release issued by the Providence law firm of Tillinghast Licht & Semenoff.
He initiated the Rhode Island Bar application process shortly after his Boston-based
law firm of Perkins Smith & Cohen, LLP merged with Tillinghast Licht &
Semonoff on January 1st of this year. Cohen is a published author, has served
on the United States Patent Quarterly advisory board since 1987, was editor-in-chief
of the Massachusetts Law Review from 1991 to 1993 and served on the Massachusetts
Board of Bar Overseers from 1994 to 1998. He is a graduate of the George Washington
Law School and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and is also admitted to practice
law in Massachusetts, the District of Columbia, and with the United States Patent
and Trademark Office and the Canadian Patent Office. Cohen and his wife Carol
have homes in Newton, Mass. and Little Compton.
