Leadership Rhode Island (LRI) recently held its annual Scholarship Luncheon. The awards ceremony recognizes outstanding community leadership by honoring individuals who have made a significant impact in the community. In addition, awards were presented to individuals who have been instrumental in the success of the institute, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary. The 2000 David E. Sweet Leadership Award was presented to 1996 LRI graduate Howard G. Sutton, president and CEO of the Providence Journal Company. The Rhode Island Community Service award was given to Anna Prager, chair of the board of volunteers of the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority and community volunteer. Kathryn A. Hartley, who served as LRI’s president from 1984 until 1999, received the Special Recognition Award. The luncheon was established to raise funds for LRI’s Scholarship Fund.
